Markets on this weekend in Kalamunda and Freo

Can you believe it? Its already time again for another market (Saturday 2nd April in Kalamunda and Sunday 3rd at the East Freo Senior Highschool on Lefroy St). Time rushes by when you are having fun.

As you can read from my last blog the sewing workshop went well last Saturday. Then I was a bit ambitious with sewing heaps of stock... well it started off well with all my bunting and plastic bag storage bags but as usual it took longer than expected that's why I will be sewing some more tonight (sisters for my Easter Bunny). I also bought a Yoyo-Maker and let me tell you it's addictive. So far I used them for hairclips but I have some other ideas in mind.
Here are some of the pictures of what you can expect at the markets this weekend.

As the weather is just fine... grab your friends and get out there and enjoy summer as long as you can. I hope to see you at the markets. Have a fantastic weekend everyone.

Caroo 1st workshop

What a creative day it was. I enjoyed myself very much and the girls told me that they did too. We managed to make a bag, a purse with zipper, a doorstop and a plastic bag dispenser all in one day! I am so proud of you 2 (Corinna and Jo), well done!
Here are some pictures of us being busy and from all 3 of us (proud as) with the end products. I am looking forward to another workshop (next time I will organise it for a Sunday as some wanted to come along but had to work).
I will let you know when I will be running another class.

New job, new market and finally a Caroo sewing workshop

It's been 1,5 weeks now since I started my new job at IKEA as a Visual Merchandiser and let me tell you... its the best job I ever had! Happy, happy, happy is all I can say. So if you bump into me at IKEA I will now be  wearing a white T-shirt and very sexy blue pants ;-) but some things still remain the same:

Then I started a new market last month (was very last minute so I never had the chance to tell anyone). It's the Freo Growers Market at the South Fremantle Senior High School at 170 Lefroy Road in Fremantle. Its a weekly farmers market but the first Sunday of every month they also hold a craft market. Its on from 8am to 12pm this Sunday.
Kalamunda Market is also on this Saturday so it will be a full-on market weekend for me, can't wait for it.
This is an ad from when they first started the Growers Market (not sure if they still do the face painting).

Here a couple of pictures of my latest creations. As I have been selling all my door stops I had to produce a heap of them, the same goes for the covered-button-hair-elastics. I also started some small flat zipper-bags ages ago and finally finished them off.

Today I went investigating for a sewing room and I found one here in Forrestfield at the Woodlupine Community Centre. I booked a room for
Saturday, 26th March 2011
from 10am to 4pm
I will be holding a sewing workshop where we will be sewing a big and small bag like this one:

If you want to learn how to sew please let me know via email as places are limited. I can book 4 people that will be using my sewing machines ($70) and 4 people that take their own sewing machines along ($50).

What will be provided by me:
instructions on how to get started, step-by-step instructions how to make the bags, pattern, 3 Overlocker machines (can be used by everyone), 4 Bernina Sewing machines (for people who book the workshop incl. sewing machine), tea/coffee/biscuits, sewing accessories like scissors, tape messure, pins and needles.

What you will have to bring along:
fabric, matching thread, 1 zipper and lunch (alternatively there is also MacDonald's, Subway, Wooly's and a bakery in 2 min. walking distance from the Community Centre). We will be having a 30 min. lunch break.

After you book the workshop I will let you know exactly how much fabric and zipper you need to get and how to get to the Woodlupine Community Centre.

This will be the first workshop, I plan to organise some more later and sew some different things like softies and maybe skirts depending on how much interest there is out there.

You will see once you take that first step it becomes easier and easier and soon you will be having the sewing bug just like I do.

I hope to hear from you or to see you at one of the markets on the weekend. Hope you all have a fantastic time.

Everything is happening now!

Well, where do I start?
First things first. Since Australia Day last week I am officially an Aussie, no... wait... lets make this a proud Aussie. Here are some pictures of me taking the pledge and celebrating the happy occasion.

I am still working on my Aussie accent but I am not quite there yet (and probably never will).  And by the way I had a zip of Bundy but it was more for the picture effect ;-) I prefer a choc milk any day of the week ;-)

I also made some more stock for this Saturday's Kalamunda Market. I have made some hair elastics in 3 different sizes (small $3, medium $4 and big $5):
These are all covered buttons with an elastic attached. I cannot wait for my "mullet" to grow into long hair again so I can wear them. Anybody out there with some tips how to grow hair faster? Please let me know, I would appreciate it very much.

Then I started to sew some owl pictures on frames. The pictures are 50x50cm and would look very pretty in a nursery ($50).

And last but not least I made some book-/shoe-/anything-bags ($7):

So this it the latest CaRoo news for now.
Don't forget this Saturday is Kalamunda Market, the weather will be stunning (not to say stinking) so come along for a break in the lovely Perth hills.
See you there.

next Kalamunda Market: Saturday 8th January 2011

Firstly I want to wish you all a happy new year and I hope you had a relaxing time over Christmas.
2011 will be full of excitement and changes, lets get into it.
May I introduce you to Maureen McDoover. Maureen is made of my ever favorite orange pants (that luckily don't fit anymore) but I just couldn't throw them away. I knew that one day they will have a "life" again and when I found the book closet monsters (monsters made of clothes you don't wear anymore) my heart jumped. I had to make her (sorry Maureen is not for sale).

Another project of mine was to start sewing door stops. That was one of my 32457 ideas that hang around in my brain and finally I made some. Lucky me that I live close to a kid's playground... the sand there is just perfect ;-) If you see me sneaking down the street early in the morning with a plastic bag that looks heavy and full you know I will be sewing some more.

Of course I also made some more bags. Another book I bought was Amy Butler's style stiches (book of bags). As I have a few fab Amy Butler fabrics I want to start getting into this style a bit more.

I am still a big fan of babushka dolls and therefore I made some more bookmarks and cards for all those who share my passion for these little Russian ladies.
That's it for today. I have Friday morning off, its 6am and I better get into some more sewing as tomorrow the 1st Kalamunda Market will be held for 2011. The weather should be fine so come up to the hills and enjoy the market atmosphere. See you there! CaRoo

Getting ready for Kalamunda Market on 4th December 2010

This is a wooden frame my father made for us girls when we were little and collecting all sorts of things. Now I use it for my sewing thread and as you can see I have heaps. I love the look of it and I love how it reminds me of my dad every time I look at it and let me tell you its so handy too!
Many people asked me at the market if I make baby slings and finally I can say "Yes!" They are (just like my bags) reversible and at the moment I have 3 different colours to choose from. I sell them for $35 and if you have a favourite fabric at home I can also make a special order (fabric needs to be 1.6m long).

My kids bags ($15) are very popular and I made heaps more for the next Kalamunda Market. Little girls love the babushka doll fabric and I am sure they would be happy to find such a bag in their Christmas stocking this year.
Just purchased this lovely Amy Butler fabric called Lotus. What a great pattern this is and doesn't it just look fab as a bag ($39)?
Crap... sorry I meant crab! With this shopping bag ($33) you can also make a good look at the beach. Did I already mention that I LOVE orange colour?

No, not to worry, we are not going to be the next Octuplet parents ;-)) sorry can't find how to spell this word, my 600-page dictionary only tells me how to spell octopus which is not quite the same. Anyway my sew sew sweet diaper cover pants ($16) are just perfect for a hot Aussie summer. They come in 3 different sizes: S (6-8kg), M (8-10kg) and L (10-12kg). Combined with a little singlet your little ones will look absolutely adorable.

I have a goose invasion at home and need to take them to the next market. They are low maintenance and I give them to a good home for $25 each.

Last but not least I made some more pencil cases or some use it as a makeup bag ($12). I use my German ribbons on them and they as well make a great stocking filler or Advent Calendar gift for Christmas.
I still have one more day of holiday, it just went to quick as usual. So I will be making some more bags until Friday night (also as usual).
Ian and I are having our 9th wedding anniversary today so we probably will have a nice dinner somewhere.
See you maybe on Saturday at the market. Have a nice day everybody.
